Tutor assisting mature student in library

Why become a tutor?

Teaching literacy or English as a second language is a great way to help our fellow citizens and thus our local communities thrive.  Watching your adult student strive, succeed, and achieve their goals is very fulfilling and rewarding.

What are the requirements to be a tutor?

To be a certified tutor in the Duncan Area Literacy Program you do not have to have any teaching experience.  All that is required is a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to read and write and have a strong desire to help others.  Our tutors receive 9 hours of training before they are paired with an adult student.  Periodic in-service classes are available for more strategies and tips to help in planning your classes.  As a tutor you will receive plenty of support and resources and all are available at no charge to the tutor or the student.
Training will be announced on this website as well as our Facebook page so be sure to “Like” us!

To contact us you may call us at 580-736-1170 or fill out the form below and we will get in touch with you.
